Races with a distance of 20 to 49 km. Minimum elevation gain is 1,200 metres, but can reach up to 4,000 metres.
Stowarzyszenie Skyrunning Polska is the official representative of the International Skyrunning Federation (ISF) in Poland. We select the Polish National Team for the Skyrunning World Championships - on La Gomera (18-20 September 2026) Poland won three medals.
Skyrunning is an extreme sport practiced in high-mountain environments. According to ISF regulations, disciplines are divided into several main categories based on distance and elevation gain.
Skyrunning Classic
Races with a distance of 20 to 49 km. Minimum elevation gain is 1,200 metres, but can reach up to 4,000 metres.
Extreme Distance
Demanding routes of 50 to 99 km. Minimum elevation gain is 3,100 metres. The winner's time must exceed 5 hours.
Fight Against Gravity
Uphill-only race. Distance does not exceed 5 km and the elevation gain must be exactly 1,000 metres (Vertical Kilometer).
Explosive Power
Very short-distance races with extreme gradient (above 33%). Usually with elevation gain starting from 100 metres.
Stair Races
Vertical races inside buildings or on structures. Minimum staircase gradient must be at least 45%.
Marathon in the Clouds
Race of at least 30 km with a minimum of 2,000 metres of elevation gain. Routes often follow ridges and peaks above 3,000m.
Skyrunning is not just running - it's climbing, technical agility and a fight against lack of oxygen. A sport that redefines the limits of the human body in the most harsh environment on the planet.
In Poland, skyrunning centres around the Tatras, Karkonosze and Beskids, offering routes of the highest technical difficulty and exposure.

Selection for the Polish Skyrunning National Team for the 2026 World Championships (La Gomera, Spain · 18-20 September) was based on the percentage result relative to the time standard, combined across both qualifying races held on 6 June 2026 on Babia Góra.
2026 Skyrunning World ChampionshipsThe four athletes with the best percentage of the standard. Places 1-2 receive fuller travel support. Łukasz Wąchała and Patrycja Stanek joined the World Championships squad from the reserve list - six athletes in total.

The ninth edition of the biennial Skyrunning World Championships took place on 18-20 September 2026 on the volcanic island of La Gomera (Canary Islands, Spain). National teams from around the world battled for 27 sets of medals across three disciplines: VERTICAL, SKY and SKYULTRA. Poland came home with three of them. The races were held as part of the Gomera Paradise series, under the aegis of the International Skyrunning Federation (ISF).
Results, courses & national teamPatrycja Stanek won the SKY race to become world champion, and Dominik Tabor reached the podium twice — bronze in SKY and silver in the combined VERTICAL + SKY ranking. Bartosz Ligas and Łukasz Wąchała finished in the world's top five.

Poland was represented by six athletes selected in the national qualification on Babia Góra.
See the qualification rankingA volcanic island just 22 km in diameter, in the Atlantic southwest of Tenerife. Its highest peak reaches 1,487 m, and the higher areas are covered by the laurel forest of Garajonay National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. La Gomera is famed for its whistled language, Silbo, and for being Christopher Columbus's last port of call before his 1492 voyage to the Americas. The event motto: "from hell to heaven".
Official ISF pageTeam Poland won three medals at the 2026 Skyrunning World Championships, held on 18-20 September 2026 on La Gomera (Canary Islands, Spain). Patrycja Stanek won the SKY race (3:20:29) to become world champion, and Dominik Tabor took bronze in SKY (2:46:52) and silver in the combined VERTICAL + SKY ranking.
On the 4xBabia Góra Ultramarathon course (55 km, +4400 m), Miłosz Szcześniewski (5:52:08) and Agnieszka Dygacz (6:23:00) took the Polish Skyrunning Ultra titles. Huge congratulations to everyone who took on the queen of the Beskids!
The 2xBabia Góra SkyRace (20.5 km, +1700 m) - which was not a Polish Championship but counted towards national team qualification - was won by Dominik Tabor (1:59:03) and Patrycja Stanek (2:31:36). A remarkable 217 runners crossed the finish line.
To compete in official World Cup events and Championships under the International Skyrunning Federation, an active national license is required.
